THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID

June 4th – July 16th 2010 - 8:00PM
(Friday Evenings)

Girl on Girl Music and Comedy

That ’s What She Said is a mad musical bouquet of imaginative, comic songs about lesbians. Amy Turner, vocalist, and Kathryn Lounsbery, pianist and vocalist, effortlessly take their audiences on a whirlwind tour through music: jazz, rap, folk, disco, light opera, and power ballads, to name a few, are presented on an eco-friendly silver platter. Their musical versatility and impeccable comic timing have quickly garnered rave reviews and a world-wide following. Recently named "Best Comedy Show to
Make You Pee Your Pants" by Jane and Jane Magazine, Amy and Kathryn have taken their show across the country, on the high seas, to Mexico, and are recent darlings of the Film Festival circuit with their hard-core rap homage to the oldest Lesbian joke: U-Haul: The Music Video. www.thatswhatshesaidshow.com.

CRAZY IS WHAT CRAZY DOES

June 12-July 18th, 2010

Saturdays at 8:00PM
Sundays at 2:00 PM

Written and Performed by Ruthy Otero

Comedian Ruthy Otero, author/performer of the hit one woman shows, “Oops! I killed my mother” “Dancing with my Demons” and “Losin’ My Religion”, brings her newest piece of comic genius to the stage, “Crazy is What Crazy Does” - Unable to live a life worth living, Ruth goes to LAX in a desperate attempt to become the adventurous woman she is when she travels abroad. Revealing a past fraught with "right choices", cybersex, schizophrenia, and an envy of JLo, Ruth learns that denying her true self is the craziest thing she could ever do.

THE OBLIVION SERIES

June 12-July 18th, 2010

Saturdays at 8:00PM
Sundays at 2:00PM

Written by: Justine Warrington
Directed by: Jennie O’Donnell

THE OBLIVION SERIES by Justine Warrington is an intimate, raw, and provocative journey through the trials and tribulations of existence in today’s fast-paced, sensationalistic and increasingly frightening world. Told through monologues by various modern women living and coming to terms with themselves and the current state of the planet…battling their deepest fears and fighting for truth, clarity, connection and love. Warrington draws from her own experiences (particularly those related to being a woman in showbiz) and offers up a myriad of thoughtful, edgy and comical characters that make up this new original one-act play.

*Caution: coarse, vulgar language (oh my!) and partial nudity (oh, behave!)

A GODDESS WORKSHOP FOR PLAYWRIGHTS

Saturday, May 22nd   1-4pm

This 3-hour playwriting workshop explores goddess identity and the “archetypal feminine” for playwrights.  We’ll examine the power of myth, and sample ancient depictions of divine feminine deities from Aristophanes, Sophocles, Euripides and Sappho. We'll discuss if/how these relate to our understanding of the “active female” in today’s theater. We’ll move next to exercises, and brainstorm about how playwrights can use goddess myths as springboards for new plays, new adaptations and new approaches. Each participant will leave with a list of references and exercises for future exploration. (No previous myth experience necessary.)

Instructor:  Laura Shamas, Ph.D., has taught myth adaptation for dramatic writers at several universities, most recently in Hollins University's MFA  Screenwriting program (2009). She's written 30 plays. Website: www.laurashamas.com.
